It all started with a tiny "Meow" as I was sitting down at dinner with my parents. Kittens!... So our neighbor has a huge issue with stray cats running all over the place. He doesn't take care of the ones he has and so they are constantly having more kittens and reeking up the whole street. Don't get me wrong, I do love cats, but he has far too many. This year alone we have caught 16 maybe and it has been an issue for years. Through my grandma over the edge when she was trying to deal with it. Anyways, so at first our thoughts were, oh man, more cats on the loose. But this poor kitten continued to cry. So I finally went, looked over his fence, through his wildly growing vines, and spotted a tiny white kitten struggling for life. Its eyes not even open yet, flies and gnats flying all over the poor thing and it was rolling all over, running into things. It broke my heart to see this tiny, innocent animal suffering. So I went next door to try to get a hold of the owner and no answer. My dad and I went over and we had to move the rose bushes that have taken over his front walkway, and it smelt SO bad! After about 4 hours of listening to this poor kitty, I couldn't take it anymore and got the nerve to go in his backyard to rescue it. Great! Now what?I called a friend of mine, Carlie, for instruction. She grew up on a farm and so I figured she would know what I needed to do next. I got a hold of some evaporated milk and a syringe (thanks to a neighbor) and fed it all night every 2 hours. I made it a tiny bed and it would just cuddle up in the corner under the blankets and finally went to sleep. Poor thing. Probably scared to death and starving! I was able to get it to eat quite a bit but it was eating less and less as the night went on. So come morning, first thing, I called the vet down the street to see if they had any tips or if they would even take it. They checked with their technicians and luckily, Ashley, was willing to take this abandoned kitten in to tube feed it and bring it back to health. I was so grateful! I am allergic to cats and so by morning, my eyes were swollen and runny. But I couldn't bare to listen to its tragic cries of help. I handed over my number and asked them to call me if it made it through. This little kitten was a fighter, let me tell you. I really enjoyed this experience and felt great. I wish I could've kept him, but I knew that wasn't an option even before I went next door for the rescue. It is kinda a good thing I handed it over to someone else, bc I was getting slightly attached, not gonna lie! What an experience:)
