This is one thing I really miss about Texas. The thunderstorms down there are incredible. The lightening lights up the whole city and not just for few short milliseconds but a good long couple of seconds! The thunder is loud enough to rumble your whole house. The rain comes down so hard that sometimes it comes down in sheets and you have to pull over when driving bc you can't see a thing. That is what a real thunderstorm is like. Here in Utah, you just can't experience that. . .But the last couple of days I am excited to say I have heard thunder like I never have here in Utah since we moved here 8 years ago. I was so excited to wake up to it the other morning, to hear the rumble. It is so amazing to me how loud thunder can be! Anywho, happy thunderstorms!
Texas Memory of mine. . .
Back when I was about 11 I was at an evening workout at Capital Gymnastics. Because of the tornadoes they have in Texas we had a set routine of what to do if we were put into the situation of a dangerous storm. The pits at Capital weren't filled with foam, instead very large mats called "whales". Then we put smaller mats ontop to level with the ground. Anyways, if we had serious tornado warnings, we had to lay inside the pit underneath the smaller mats. One particular time I remember, there was a huge storm outside and the rain was just pounding on the metal roof above and the thunder was shaking the whole gym. There were high tornado warnings and so we all squished together underneath the mats. It calmed down just a bit after about 25 minutes or so and then we got out and began calling our parents to come pick us up. I lived much further than everyone else, and so it took my dad much longer to get there. He was also driving against the storm, while all the other cars were headed the other way. There weren't very many of us left and the power went out. It was pitch black outside and now it was inside as well. We grabbed some flash lights and continued to wait. The hail started coming not long after and the storm picked up again. My dad finally got there and we headed home, this time, moving away from the storm, back towards Austin. It was a scary experience and one that I will never forget either. Thanks dad, for coming to rescue me:)
