Our family experienced something new over the weekend. We drove up the mountain to Wolf Creek, were we found very little snow, warm temperatures, and new adventure.
FRIDAY, MARCH 9
The night started off getting lost...Mom told Tyler and Tiff that the GPS had told them the wrong way as far as length. But, it took us just as long because we drove 20 miles past our exit. I would see it was a beautiful detour except it was pitch black through the steep canyon and I was so ready to get my nauseated stomach out of the car by the time we arrived at Worldmark. We arrived safely and didn't have time to do much before bed.
SATURDAY, MARCH 10
We had a slow, yet relaxing morning. We ate breakfast, Tyler & I studied a little, and then Dad, Tyler, and I headed down to the gym to workout. I almost face planted it on a sheet of ice, but I gracefully caught myself. It didn't even phase my dad or brother that I just about died...haha, ok thats an exaggeration. I biked, then did a few machine weights and I later regretted doing core. I was in quite a bit of pain the rest of the day, BUT that didn't stop me from the rest of the days fun activities.
We made a visit to the dinosaur park...it was actually really cool. It had lots of things for the kids to do, giant robotic dinos, multiple parks, a sand pit, and even a pond to feed the ducks.
Tiff threw water on me after this...I was a little wet
crash and burn...at least i didn't end up in the puddle like Nick & Zoe...
Proof!
Don't worry, she didn't die!
SUNDAY, MARCH 11
We had a very chill day with it being Sunday. We played more games, watched a movie, and went to church. Our plan was to just go to sacrament meeting, but there was a miscommunication on the time, so we ended up going to half of sunday school and left after the sacrament. The kids were having a good time entertaining themselves in the condo and they played 'ship wrecked' with nick and zoe jumping between the coach and murphy bed. They also sang "No more monkey's jumping on the Bed" while jumping of course and at one point Aspen was riding Nick's back like a little cowgirl.
We went for a walk around the lodge and watched the sunset. Then we finished the night off watching Soul Surfer.
MONDAY, MARCH 12
Finally...Ski Day! The weather was amazing! We brought all kinds of layers, thinking it would be colder once we traveled further up the mountain. But throughout the day, we were taking layers off, hats, coats, gloves...it was so nice. The only downside, was the snow became more and more slushy throughout the day:/ In fact, at the base of the bigger lift, you were basically water skiing bc of the enormous puddle you had to tread through while in line! We had a blast. Nick had a couple really good wipe outs, one of which Tyler witnessed. Tyler saw him catch an edge and biff it. Not knowing it was Nick, he thought to himself, "Man, I wish Nick would've been here to enjoy that." When Nick got back up, Tyler laughed and realized he actually experienced it. haha.
I had a couple good runs. I am still a little inconsistent as far as control. Sometimes I feel like I am doing great and other times I pretty much freak out. But it was good and my knees were happy until the last run down, I tweaked both of them pretty good and went down 1/2 the mountain in a good amount of pain.
Danny did not want to be left out. So, Tyler took him down the bunny hill on his board. "Again!" He would say at the end of every run. He was having a ball; maybe next year he will be on his own board!
This was the first time our whole family has gone skiing together. Back in 2002, we came up from Texas to visit and had plans to ski. When we got up on the mountain, I got altitude sickness, passed out, and slept the whole day in the lodge. So, we have attempted it, but this was the first successful trip. Tiffany was there, I promise, taking pictures. Of course she wasn't going to get out there with her pregnant belly...haha, love ya Tiff!
We had a great trip and it was good to get away and spend time with family. I can't wait to go again next year!
